TN Governor presented the Mother Teresa award

Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala has been selected for the 'Mother Teresa Lifetime Achievement Award 2009' for his contribution in the field of social work and administration by the Mother Teresa's International and Millennium Awards Committee.

Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala has been selected for the 'Mother Teresa Lifetime Achievement Award 2009' for his contribution in the field of social work and administration by the Mother Teresa's International and Millennium Awards Committee.

The award would be presented to Barnala by Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee at a function at Kolkata on Sunday, a Raj Bhavan release said in Chennai on Saturday.

Mother Teresa's International and Millennium Awards Committee, Kolkata instituted the award in 2000 to recognise excellent performances in the field of education, culture, music, social work, sports, industry, medicine and politics.Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi (posthumous), former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyothi Basu, former US first lady and currently Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former Prime Minister of Bangaladesh Sheik Hasina, former Prime Minister of Nepal Girija Prasad Koirala, Hema Malini, Rajesh Khanna and other eminent personalities have been earlier presented with this award
