The British minister for Trade Investment and Business, Lord Davies, who was in Nagpur on Wednesday to support a British business delegation of 14 companies, sees huge business potential for UK firms in the proposed international cargo hub project and the special economic zone (SEZ) at Nagpur.
Davies, who met senior government officials, representatives of local Industries’ Association and officials of MIHAN, said that a couple of British firms have already expressed their willingness to set up their ventures in the city. Nagpur is one of the eight emerging cities in India showcased by a UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) and UK India Business Council report as having the potential to offer serious business opportunities for UK firms.
“I am delighted to visit the orange city of Nagpur, one of the engine rooms for India’s growth. UK firms should look beyond the obvious destinations of New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore and explore the potential of emerging cities such as Nagpur,” he added.
It is located centrally and is well connected by air, road and rail to almost all the major cities in the country. “Nagpur has a great future,” the minister further pointed out.
The British Deputy High Commissioner, Western India, Vicki Treadell, who accompanied the minister said, “ The UK is always seeking to expand its business relations in India. Nagpur is poised to become a major commercial centre and we would like to partner Nagpur in its growth story. British Companies are already active in Nagpur and I hope that the UKIBC delegation that the minister is supporting would be able to generate further business partnerships.”
