Uninor launches cell services in 7 states

Uninor, a joint venture between Norway-based Telenor and Unitech, on Thursday launched its services in seven states —Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand.

Uninor, a joint venture betweenNorway-based Telenor and Unitech, on Thursday launched its services in seven states —Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand. The company is offering services at 29 paise per minute. “Establishing a mobile operation of this scale in record time is truly an impressive achievement,” said Jon Fredrik Baksaas, CEO and president of the Telenor Group.

There are currently up to ten service providers in a market. Uninor will be the eleventh player in the market. The company is offering local calls at 29 paise per minute and STD calls at 49 paise per minute, with a call set up fee of 39 paise per call or a daily rental of Rs 2.00.

Uninor will not employ big celebrity brand ambassadors. “To succeed in today's India; a brand must understand what is driving today's India. Uninor has recognised its audience as the young impatient Indian,” said Sanjay Chandra, MD, Unitech.
