At least ten people were killed in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad district when a truck lost control and mowed down members of a marriage procession, police said.
Six of the victims were killed on spot while five others died while being taken for treatment.
At least ten people sustained injuries and were rushed to Sarojini Naidu Medical College in Agra, a police official told IANS.
Additional superintendent of police, Sanjeev Vajpayee, said the incident occurred at Bamba bypass in Firozabad city at about 9.30pm on Friday night.
”A truck on bypass tried to save a motor cycle driver and lost control. The truck first struck an auto rickshaw and then mowed down those in the wedding procession before colliding with the electricity pole,”’ Vajpayee said.
The marriage function was in Hans Vatica where the marriage procession was supposed to reach for the wedding.
“The truck driver was also injured in the accident and has been taken for treatment at a district hospital while in police custody,” the ASP said.

{{/usCountry}}“The UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has declared a compensation of Rs two lakh to family members of those killed in accident. An amount of rupees fifty thousand has been sanctioned for those injured, apart from the cost of treatment,” said Nidhi Kesrwani, district magistrate of Firozabad.
As many as three people, Karua, Krishna and Vakeel, have been identified.
“Efforts are underway to identify others too,” an official said, adding that their first priority was transferring the injured to hospital.
