Sheikh Adnan, son of Hilal Ahmed who was arrested on Monday for being allegedly involved in the 1990 abduction and murder of then Kashmir University vice-chancellor Masheer-ul-Haq, has slammed the police saying its claims are "false and fabricated".
Adnan's expressed his views in a blog on Friday, published by a local news portal, Kashmir Dispatch.com.
"The police claims regarding absconding and apprehension of my father are totally false and fabricated," said Adnan.
"We are in shock since we came to know about the police claims, which were wrongly propagated on social networking sites and other media sources that my father was absconding in Pakistan since 1990," he said.
Adnan says his father has been doing business in Srinagar for the past 24 years, and substantiates his statements with continuous bank transactions on his name.
"If he would have been evading arrest, would he offer prayers in the mosque which is surrounded by a police station," he said.
He added that his father was issued a passport after proper clearance and verification from CID and police. He performed Haj in 2006, followed by Umrah in 2008.
"The fact is that a policeman on Monday this week came to our shop and asked my father to visit the police station," said Adnan.

Masheer-ul-Haq and his secretary Abdul Gani were kidnapped from Kashmir University campus in 1990 and later killed by the abductors sending shock waves among the academicians and the general public in the state.
Most of the accused in the case have been released.
