A case has been registered against an official of the French consulate in Bangalore for allegedly raping his four-year-old daughter.
The Bangalore Police registered the case against 39-year-old Pascal Nazuria on Thursday night on a complaint filed by his Indian wife Suja Jones. Nazuria works as chief of the joint chancellery in the consulate.
Jones told the police she doubted Nazuria's intentions. On Wednesday, she asked her domestic help to keep a watch on Nazuria. The help is reported to have told Jones that Nazuria spent nearly two hours with the child in a locked room.
Seeing the child crying, Jones took her to the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences. On the suggestion of doctors there, she went to the Baptist Hospital, where a medical examination confirmed sexual assault on the child.
The police were allegedly reluctant to register a case against Nazuria and were forced to act after Pramila Nesargi, former chief of the Karnataka Women's Commission, intervened.
BR Ravikanthe Gowda, Deputy Commissioner of Police, said Nazuria was being questioned, but would not be arrested as he had diplomatic immunity.
