Will agree to contest on conditions: Nanjegowda

Senior JD(U) leader H N Nanjegowda, who had expressed unhappiness over the number of seats allotted to his party under a poll pact with the BJP in Karnataka, on on Thursday said he would agree to contest from Hassan parliamentary constituency, on certain conditions.

He said he would contest if a majority or at least 50 per cent of the eight assembly seats falling under the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency were allotted to the JD(U).

If this was not agreeable, the JD(U) should be permitted to field candidates in all the eight segments. They would contest on the party symbol as NDA candidates "with the photo of Vajpayee", he said.

A section of JD(U) men, led by Nanjegowda, had come out strongly against the BJP giving the party 25 assembly and four Lok Sabha seats and had demanded a review of the pact for a better deal.
