The belief of the BJP leaders also gets stronger with the fact that the names short-listed for a rally scheduled to be held in the city sometime in the last week of September, includes the name of Narendra Modi. With the rally, the party hopes to kick-start its poll campaign also. Other leaders expected to address the public meeting include former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani along with BJP president Rajnath Singh.
The BJP leaders were of the view that in the current political scenario, where politics of polarisation was playing a major role, no leader would be a better bet than Narendra Modi. Besides, they are of the view that to tackle the challenges thrown by Mulayam Singh Yadav, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Mayawati, the chief minister of Gujarat who has emerged as one of the national faces of the party, would be a force to reckon with.
A the senior leader of the party, while talking to the Hindustan Times said that no wonder people would like to hear Narendra Modi more than the likes of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Reasons: He said: “Atal Ji was the tallest leader of the party, however, the citizens of Kanpur in particular and UP in general have heard him on numerous occasions while Modi would be heard for the first time.”
He said Modi has further proved himself, as an able administrator by bringing Gujarat on the international map, be it on economic front or infrastructure development front.
Another senior leader of the party and former minister in the BJP government though, gave priority to Atal Bihari Vajpayee but said that a close second would have to be Narendra Modi.
A BJP leader even said that it was possible that Narendra Modi might address the people in the proposed rally of the BJP to kick-start of the campaign by the party.
However, city BJP spokesperson Anoop Awasthi, refusing the divulge further details said that it was a matter of two or three days, when the names of the leaders expected to address the rally, as well as the date, would be made public.
