Younis' flip-flop was unjustified: Shaharyar

"His behaviour was very reactive and not befitting a player of his stature," said the former PCB chairman.

Former chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board Shaharyar Khan has said Younis Khan's recent flip-flop on captaincy was unjustified and not befitting his stature.

"I thought his behaviour was very reactive and not befitting a player of his stature. His reaction was unjustified," Khan said.

Last week Younis announced at a press conference that he would not lead the team in the Champions Trophy as he did not want to be a "dummy captain."

Initially, it was thought that he was unhappy with the attitude of some other players towards him. But it later transpired that he had taken his dramatic decision because he went to meet Shaharyar and was not allowed to meet the then PCB chief.

However, Shaharyar defended his not meeting Younis, saying that he was busy at a meeting.

"As per corporate norms, he was told to wait for his turn. As soon as I finished my meeting, I called him in but the peon said he had left in a huff. Later, he went down and made his sudden announcement and created another controversy," the former diplomat said.

It was later learnt that Younis lost his cool as the peon, a new man at the job, failed to recognise him. Besides, he was under the impression that Shaharyar was sitting alone in his office and yet made him wait.
