Rajeev Shukla will continue as the chairman of the Indian Premier League governing council. This was decided by the Board of Control for Cricket in India today. The extension has been ratified by the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators.
The 57-year-old Shukla, a veteran cricket administrator, was unsure of continuing as IPL chairman after the Committee of Administrators was adamant on applying the tenure cap rule as per the Lodha committee reforms for BCCI. Shukla has served the BCCI for well over nine years.
Earlier, the CoA had barred BCCI officials from attending the IPL players auction. But Shukla, who was reappointed as the chairman of the powerful IPL governing council in 2015, did made his presence felt and even addressed the IPL franchise owners in Bangalore.
The CoA chief Vinod Rai has now approved another extension for Shukla.
“Mr Shukla is not disqualified as per Supreme Court order. Also the earlier governing council exists. It was Mr Shukla who chaired the meeting,” Rai clarified.
Shukla also said that there was no bitterness was felt during the meeting. “The discussions with the COA happened in cordial atmosphere. We all want IPL 10 to be successful. We have taken a host of decisions for this edition of IPL. Mumbai gets a play off as their last year’s play off was shifted due to drought,” he said.

{{/usCountry}}Among the IPL GC members, PV Shetty, Sourav Ganguly, CK Khanna, Aniruddh Chaudhary were present in person. Amitabh Chaudhary attended via tele conference while Jyotiraditya Scindia didn’t show up. MP Pandove is disqualified from GC as he is above 70 years.
The CoA has also agreed to shell out advances to associations staging IPL matches. The tournament begins on April 5. The first match will be played between defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Royal Challengers Bangalore.
