A 45-year-old businessman was shot dead late on Thursday in Rajasthan’s Sikar by unidentified assailants, police said on Friday.
The deceased, identified as Sanwarmal Yadav (45), used to own a shop in Kotdi Luharwas, police said.
“Yadav was returning to his village after closing his shop at Kotdi Luharwas, when the incident took place,” said sub inspector Manohar Lal at Sikar’s Khandela police station.
“Yadav, a resident of Naharbadi village, was intercepted by two unidentified bike-borne men on his way home,” Lal said.
The place where Yadav was intercepted by the assailants is about a kilometre from his shop, police said.
“The incident took place around 10:30 pm inside a forest,” said Lal.
After intercepting Yadav, the two opened fire on him, police said.
“Preliminary investigation suggests that the attack could be a result of personal enmity. We have found ₹ 53,000 that Yadav was carrying with him but the men who killed him didn’t take with the money,” said Lal.

{{/usCountry}}“The driver of a truck who was passing through the area saw Yadav’s motorcycle and his body lying beside it on the road,” said Singh.
“At first, the truck driver thought him to be a victim of an accident but later villagers from a nearby village who reached the spot a little later noticed the bullet injuries,” the police official said.
The bullets fired by the assailants were from a country-made pistol, police said.
Family members and friends of Yadav staged a protest on Friday morning, refusing to take the dead body.
“A search has been initiated and we are hoping that the assailants will soon be arrested,” said Singh.
