Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje on Thursday said the ongoing programme to bring improvement in mother and child health and in their nourishment levels will be expanded to other districts.
Antara Foundation in association with Tata Trust is executing the Akshada programme in Raje’s home district Jhalawar.
Focusing on the crucial Rs 1,000 days’ between conception and second year of a child, the programme covers critical areas such as neo-natal mortality, maternal anaemia and improving immunisation.
On the second day of Collector-Superintendent of Police (SP) Conference, Raje asked the officials to give special attention to the districts falling in tribal area development region. Raje asked officials to immediately shift central jail in 16 districts from densely populated areas.
In Rajasthan, Auxiliary Nurse and Midwife (ANM), ASHA Worker and Anganwadi Worker – all frontline health workers – are jointly identified as AAA. Under the Akshada program, these frontline health workers survey villages for recording health- and nutrition-related details of pregnant women, new mothers and infants.
“The project is showing good results as ANMs, Ashas and anganwadi workers are collectively working. Adolescent girls are being made a part of the project,” Antara Foundation’s founding director Ashok Alexander said. Mapping of all the villages of Baran and Jhalawar will be completed by this year end.

Vice-chairman of the state-level committee for monitoring of 20-point agenda, Dr Digambar Singh said the innovative idea of the adolescent girls partnering in the project will yield good results.
