Appointment of 502 doctors cancelled in Rajasthan; most not keen on rural postings

The state government has cancelled the appointment of 502 medical officers after they failed to join duty within the stipulated dates.

The health department has also directed all the chief medical and health officers (CMHOS) in the districts not to allow these doctors to join any hospital, officials said.

Director, public health, VK Mathur issued the order on December 11.

The health department had given appointment to 911 officers, selected by the Rajasthan University for Health Sciences, Jaipur, on July 12. They were told to join by July 28. Another 259 doctors, appointed on September 26, were required to join by October 9. Of the 1170 medical officers recruited, 502 did not join duty within the scheduled time, officials said.

Mathur said the appointments were cancelled after the medical officers ignored notices directing them to join duty. “It was a necessary step, so that the process can be started for the fresh recruitment,” he said.

In Barmer district, 32 appointments were cancelled – the highest in the state; 28 were cancelled in Bhilwara, 16 each in Nagaur, Alwar, Sriganganagar and Pali, 17 each in Ajmer and Banswara, 13 each in Hanumangarh, Sikar and Pratapgarh, 11 each in Rajsamand 11 and Dungarpur, 8 each in Kota, Jalore and Churu, 25 in Jodhpur, 14 each in Bikaner and Jhunjhunu, 4 each in Dausa, Sawai Madhopur and Bundi, 22 in Baran, 23 in Dholpur, 6 each in Tonk, Karauli and Jaisalmer, 15 each in Jhalawar and Chittorgarh, 20 in Udaipuar, 5 in Sirohi, and 1 in Jaipur, the order said.

It was claimed during the selection of medical officers that the recruitments would strengthen health services in the state.
