The district election department on Tuesday issued notices to the area magistrate of Gida Panchayat Samiti and a zonal magistrate for negligence in the election management and failing in fulfilling their duties.
The notices were issued by the district election officer, MS Sharma, under section 119-B of the Rajasthan Panchayati Raj Act 1994 and section 134 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
The notices were issued to the officials after two groups clashed outside a polling station at Chibi panchayat under Gida Panchayat Samiti after the polling for sarpanch election late on Sunday night. Members of one of the groups set a tent on fire, while the other group pelted stones on them.
Sharma said that despite the strict directions, area magistrate (also Gida tehsildar) Gopalram Banjara and zonal magistrate ( also assistant area manager RIICO) Sushil Katiyaar did not fulfil their duties by ignoring the norms. The officials failed to stop candidates from setting up a tent outside the polling centre, which is against the election commission norm, said Sharma.
The fighting groups had filed cases against each other in the matter at the Gida police station. The police said Nagaram, a resident of Chibi village, has filed a case against Dharmendra Kumar and others alleging that after declaration of the results Dharmendra and his supporters attacked them when they were returning home after the counting of votes on Sunday night. On the other hand, Tulcharam, a resident of Kharapar village, has accused Surendra Kumar and his supporters of attacking them at the same time.
