More than 12,000 people in the state are likely to lose their arms licence as they have failed to upload data on a national database to generate a unique identification number, an official said on Thursday.
An official in the state home department, who spoke on the condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to speak to the media, said data of licence holders in 11 districts was uploaded on the National Database for Arms Licences (NDAL) after the deadline expired.
“By Wednesday evening, 100% data of the licence holders in Jalore, Jodhpur commissionerate, Tonk, Ajmer, Hanumangarh, Jhunjhunu, Jaisalmer, Chittorgarh, Sawai Madhopur, Dholpur and Baran districts was uploaded.
“In the other districts, 70 to 90% data of licence holders has been uploaded.”
The Union ministry of home affairs (MHA) in order to prepare a national database had made it mandatory for arms licence holders to have UIN, failing which the arms would be considered illegal.
Under NDAL, all licences will be digitised and synced with the national database to have complete information on all persons, types of arms, quantity of arms and ammunition as well as their status. This will help the authorities at the Centre, state and district level in real-time monitoring, regular updating as well as checking proliferation of arms, he said.

{{/usCountry}}“Earlier, it was difficult to find details of the licensee on the basis of numbers inscribed on the arms. But with the help of the national database, details of any weapon would be available at the click of a mouse.”
An arms licence has three years validity and has to be renewed else possessing the weapon is considered illegal.
Though the MHA has not issued any specific guidelines for those not possessing an UIN, state home department officials say arms licence holders who do not get the UIN within the stipulated time will have their licences cancelled.
For getting UIN, a licence holder is required to provide additional information, apart from those included during the registration, like date and place of birth.
