This is probably the first time when an NGO has been recognised for working on the anti-child marriage campaign in the country.

The NGO - Saarthi Trust -works for the betterment of children and women in the desert state. It took up the case of a Scheduled Caste girl of the Luni area in Jodhpur, who was married when she was only a year old. When the girl came to know about her marriage, she denied going away with her husband who she had never even met before.

Members of Saarthi counseled both the families and finally got the marriage annulled in April 2012. Later, the NGO hosted the marriage of the girl, in which she tied the knot with the youth of her choice.
