“Tourists from all over the world come to Jaipur every year. But once inside the Walled City, instead of clicking pictures of our heritage, they take pictures of pigs roaming around the city,” Bhardwaj said during the general body meeting of the JMC.

In spite of repeated complaints to the JMC officials, no action has been taken to tackle the problem, he said.

“People can’t sleep in the night as till well after midnight the pigs make grunting sounds. I have sent countless requests to the officials concerned but no action has been taken to solve this problem of stray pigs.”

The meeting was convened to discuss issues related to open defecation, community toilets, other sanitation matters and the ban on plastic bags.

The councillors from the opposition slammed the JMC administration and the mayor over absence of officials at the meeting.

“In such an important meeting, most of the officials from all the zones, including the revenue officers, are not present. Isn’t it the duty of the mayor to make sure that all the officials are present?” asked Congress councillor Umar Daraz.

As the councillors clashed, the proceedings of the meeting were postponed and the police personnel intervened to restore law and order in the house.
