The bandh called against Gurung’s Dooars visit paralysed normal life in western Dooars as the bandh supporters stopped trains at different points. Business establishments remain closed and traffic remained off the roads in western Dooars. However, the bandh had no impact in middle and eastern Dooars.

The Joint Action Committee formed by anti-GJM groups had called the bandh to pressure the Jalpaiguri administration not to permit Gurung to hold panchayat election rallies in the Dooars. Akhil Bhartiya Adivasi Vikash Parishad (ABAVP) is the main constituent of the Joint Action Committee.
