A senior officer from the Jadavpur East Police station said on Thursday that there are discrepancies in the statements provided by Sabiba’s parents. The police are not ready to accept the version of Sabiba’s father, Arun, who claimed that both fifteen-year olds committed suicide as they were scolded for reaching home late.

“We have matched statements of Sabiba’s parents with family records available from various sources. There are several discrepancies prompting us to feel that a prolonged family problem forced Sabiba to commit suicide,” the officer added. Moreover, it seems that the sensitivity of the case is hampering the process of investigation. The body of Sabiba has been taken to Noida for cremation. Police will speak to her family once they come back.

Police said they are not yet sure why Neha went to Sabiba’s home when she was supposed to go to her private tutor’s residence. In fact, Neha’s family members also do not have any clue as to why she was with Sabiba after school on Tuesday. “Neha’s parents received information of her death on Tuesday evening from the police. Till then they thought that their daughter had gone for tuition and would reach home on time,” said an officer.
