The family of Aabesh Dasgupta maintained that the teenager’s death was not an accident and expressed concern that the investigation into the case could be ‘influenced’ by the families of the suspects.
The victim’s kin has written to police commissioner Rajeev Kumar asking for a fair investigation.
“We have no doubt that it is a clear case of murder but the suspects belong to influential families. Chances are high that they will try to influence the police to save their wards. We have requested the police commissioner to see that the investigation is transparent,” said Rimjhim Dasgupta, the victim’s mother.
On Monday afternoon, Rimjhim visited the Kolkata Police headquarters after cremating her son, and spent an hour with detective department officials
Aabesh’s relatives rejected the theory that the 17-year-old had died in an accident. They claimed that circumstantial evidence and the behaviour of Aabesh’s friends suggested a foul play.
“If it’s only an accident, why did the friends flee the spot? Around 7.15pm on Saturday, I received a call telling me that my son met with an accident I was the last one to be informed,” Rimjhim said.
