Skin pigmentation varies across the globe, spanning from very fair to deeply dark complexions. Within this spectrum, various conditions arise, causing concerns like hypopigmentation (lighter patches) or hyperpigmentation (darker patches). "Skin pigmentation refers to the discolouration of the skin, which can occur due to various factors such as sun exposure, hormonal changes, ageing, and certain medical conditions. Dealing with skin pigmentation can be a frustrating experience. Whether it's dark spots, uneven skin tone, or hyperpigmentation, these issues can affect your confidence. While there is no guaranteed natural cure for skin pigmentation, there are some remedies that may help reduce its appearance or prevent further pigmentation," says Dr. Geetika Mittal Gupta, Skin Expert, and Cosmetologist.

Simple daily practices for combating skin pigmentation

Dr. Geetika further shared with HT Lifestyle some natural ways for combating skin pigmentation.

1. Sun protection

Protecting your skin from excessive sun exposure is crucial to prevent and minimize pigmentation. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30 every day and reapply every 2-3 hours, even during cloudy days. Incorporating almonds into your diet can be beneficial for your skin, complementing other skin-protective measures such as sunscreen use. Regular almond consumption may enhance the skin's natural defence against UVB rays. By including approximately 23 almonds in your daily diet alongside a variety of fruits and vegetables, you can naturally boost your skin's resilience to harmful UV radiation.

2. A dose of vitamin E

Omega-3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce inflammation in the skin. Consuming foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids may help reduce inflammation and promote healthier skin. Almonds contain omega-3 fatty acids, which have anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation can contribute to various skin conditions, including pigmentation irregularities.

It is always recommended to consult with a qualified healthcare practitioner or dermatologist before trying any home remedies or making changes to your skincare routine. Every individual's skin condition is unique, and what works for one person may not necessarily work for another. Use discretion and perform a patch test before applying any homemade remedies or natural ingredients to your skin.
