Actor Kareena Kapoor has always been a fitness enthusiast. Before the pandemic, the shutterbugs often spotted the star outside the gym with her buddies Malaika Arora and Amrita Arora. She also loves doing yoga and often credits the ancient technique for maintaining her health and fitness levels. So, to kickstart this weekend, Kareena practised a yoga asana and inspired us to roll out our yoga mat.

On Saturday, Kareena's trainer Anshuka Parwani took to Instagram to share a picture of the diva doing a difficult yoga asana. The mother-of-two practised a variation of Yoga's Side Plank Pose, also called Tree Pose or Vasisthasana. She nailed the challenging asana during the workout session and left Anshuka impressed. The star killed the routine in a black sports bra and black and white tights.

Sharing Kareena's post on her page, Anshuka captioned it, "Balance, breath, concentration and focus - keep these words in mind and you can never go wrong with your Yoga asanas. Bebo (Kareena Kapoor Khan) killing it with the Side Plank - Tree Pose variation #Vasisthasana. The one is really challenging, but not impossible to achieve with the right direction and practise. It helps to strengthen your core, the arms and also improves your sense of balance and coordination. The key is to practise, and watch the magic."

According to Anshuka, one can easily do the challenging Side Plank Pose or Vasisthasana variation with practice and determination. To do this asana, one has to balance their body with one hand, palms spread on the floor while doing a side plank. Raise the other hand in the air and fold one leg at the knee to place it over the other leg's knee to increase the difficulty level.

Apart from the benefits mentioned by Anshuka - strengthening the core and improving coordination - the Side Plank Pose or Vasisthasana protects the spine, reduces the risk of back injury, strengthens and tones the arms and shoulders, boosts balance in the body, builds the back muscles, and stretches wrists, hamstrings and adductors.
