The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by UP chief secretary Rajive Kumar on Thursday with senior officials of the metro rail project to facilitate inter-district passengers coming to Meerut from Delhi and Ghaziabad.

“Since the proposed alignment of the RRTS project in Meerut was almost similar to that of Meerut metro rail project corridor-1, it was felt that both the projects should be executed in a combined manner. This will ensure better coordination and ease financial burden by cost-sharing between the state governments,” Kumar said.

He said work on the first phase from North-South corridor beginning from Pratapur, Meerut to Modi Puram would be undertaken simultaneously along with the metro rail project corridor-II, which would from Shradhapuri and go up to Jagriti extension.

Principal secretary, housing and urban planning, Mukul Singhal, principal secretary, finance, Sanjiv Mittal, managing director, LMRC, Kumar Keshav, managing director, NCRTC, VK Singh, vice-chairman, Meerut Development Authority, Sitaram Yadav also attended the meeting.
