In yet another sensational loot, three motorbike miscreants chased a trader couple on way back home for about half a kilometre, shot the man dead and decamped with the valuables.

The incident took place at Bandha road in Gomti Nagar at around 12.30am on Wednesday. The trader sustained gunshot below his right temple. But, the attackers spared the victim’s wife.

The deceased has been identified as Satish Yadav, 26, resident of Gomti Nagar’s Gwari village and his wife as Anjali Yadav, 22.

They were married just two years ago. The murder-cumloot has once again brought to the fore how criminals were brazenly committing robberies in the state capital and getting away with ease.

Satish was engaged in a paan masala and betel wholesale business.

According to the police, the incident took place when the couple was returning home after watching a late night show (9.15 pm to 12.15am) at Novelty cinema in Aliganj.

Anjali Yadav had been at her parent’s house in Aliganj on Tuesday since morning. She frequently visits there as she is doing her graduation from a local college there.

Station officer (SO) Satish Gautam said, “On way back home, the trader took the route from Nishatganj to Bandha road via paper mill colony. Three assailants tried to intercept them at the Bandha turn but Satish Yadav sped up his motorcycle apprehending trouble. The assailants riding on a black motorcycle chased them for 500 metre-distance and fired shots after failing to intercept the couple.”

He said the victim lost his balance a nd the motorcycle rammed into the divider behind UP Projects Corporation building. He said the assailants then snatched cash and jewellery present with the couple and fled.

He said the police were informed when the trader’s wife called up the victim’s brother Ashish Yadav and her family members using her husband’s cell phone. The victim was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

The SO said the victim’s brother had lodged an FIR of loot and murder against unidentified persons in the matter. He said, “We are also looking into the enmity angle in the murder. The assailants apparently tried to pose the incident as loot to mislead investigations.
