Nushrat Bharucha, actor who played the leading lady in 2018’s biggest blockbuster Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, says she did not expect the film to do so well at the box office.
The actor was back in Lucknow nearly 2.5 months after the release of her film, which has already done a business of Rs 150 crore.
“When I came last it was anticipation and excitement about what will happen and now we are back with results. I never expected the film to do so well. Pyaar Ka Punchnama (PKP) and its sequel also did good business but not like this,” she tells HT City.
“To be fair, we expected Rs 60-70 crore business for SKTKS,” she says while crediting content, performances, music and production for the success of the film.
“The idea of showing different types of relationship made the film a family types and it worked,” she says.
“Before SKTKS we had made youth centric films only and had not explored the strength of family audience. The quirky family and extended relationships brought in huge footfall for us and made the difference,” she says while making a special mention of Dadaji (Alok Nath) and Lalu Kaka (Virendra Saxena).
So is she looking forward to PKP3 or SKTKS sequel? “PKP1 worked but after it I had very less choice. Out of them, I did Akaash Vani but it did not work. There was a low period after it and there were no choicest at all for me. PKP2 was made and it turned as a game changer. SKTKS was nowhere in plan but it happened and people have started talking about its sequel which still is nowhere in plan. If something comes in sir’s (Luv Ranjan) mind it will surely happen,” she says while hoping to do completely different role for the time being.

{{/usCountry}}Talking about her action plan, she says, “My plan of action will be defined by the films that I chose now as I have the choices. I am still discovering. A few things have happened but I can’t divulge details as of now,” says the actor.
About the kind of work she likes, Nushrat says, “I am not being conscious or scared but I want to be able to believe in what I am doing and have fun in what I am doing. At the end of the day, there are too many factors that come into play for a film to work. As an actor, maximum you can do is to do your job right and work in projects you enjoy. In all these films, we had great fun while making them.”
Currently, she is in a happy space and busy with work assignments. “Integrity ke saath khushi ke kaam karna hai. Like, recently I was in Dehradun to open a store which was packed to capacity. Here, I am in Lucknow where we did a fashion show for hair…which is very cool! So I am having fun meeting audiences,” she says on a signing off note.
