Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday accused the Bhartiya Janata Party of making false promises and said people had now seen through its tactics and given it a befitting reply in successive by-elections.
The former chief minister was addressing a gathering at Jorai village in Mainpuri district where he unveiled a statue.
Continuing the attack, he said: “Farmers are committing suicide but the government does not care about them. Those falling sick are not able to get ambulances and pro- poor schemes have lost priority in the present regime,” Yadav alleged. “In one election, the BJP brings the issue of Padmavati, while in another they rake up Jinnah. Thus, the voters need to remain alert,” suggested Yadav who accused the present regime in the state of being supportive of corruption. He claimed attempts were made to hush up bribery charges against senior officials.
He challenged the Yogi government to construct the proposed Purvanchal Expressway in 17 months so that they could prove that they were better than the SP under whose rule the Agra-Lucknow expressway was constructed in 19 months.
He questioned sudden cancellation of bids for Purvanchal Expressway by the BJP regime recently and promised to remove toll charges on cars costing below Rs 30 lakh and vehicles owned by farmers on the expressway.
Criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign policy, he said: ‘The prime minister visits Pakistan to have ‘kheer’ while jawans are being killed on the border.”
He mocked the BJP for having lost Kairana and Noorpur bypolls despite the ruling party having gone all-out for a win.
‘The prime minister held a road show on a 9- kilometre stretch but his party still lost. I won despite not going there to campaign,” Yadav said about the by-election result.
“We will enhance the Samajwadi pension amount to Rs 1500 and Rs 5 lakh will be granted for Lohiya Awas Yojna,” said the former chief minister. He expressed confidence that the proposed grand alliance will reduce BJP to nil in the state.
BUNGALOW ISSUE: AKHILESH SAYS WILL MAKE GOOD ‘LOSSES’
Referring to the alleged damage to the official bungalow vacated by him, Akhilesh Yadav alleged his image was being sullied on basis of false charges. He said he would return whatever losses the government seemed to have suffered.
