He was speaking at the Barrister Narendrajeet Singh Lecture series at the VSSD College in Kanpur.

“The Chhattisgarh high court has made arrangements of providing certified Hindi version of court decisions and I am told that many other high courts have started taking initiative in this respect,” said Kovind.

He said advocates played a significant role in the freedom struggle and were now contributing in ensuring justice to the poor.

Expressing concern over legal system becoming expensive and complicated, Kovind said there was a need to introduce judicial reforms for expediting the cases.

“It is encouraging to see that some of the high courts have started reducing pendency of cases in the wider interests of the litigants,” said Kovind.

Kovind also paid tributes to late Shyam Lal Gupta alias Parshad, who is credited with composing famous patriotic song, ‘Jhanda Uncha Rahe Hamara.’

The President also inaugurated the new building for law classes in the college.

He also exhorted the students of five-year integrated law course to strive towards strengthening the legal profession.
