Prisoners lodged in the Fatehgarh jail in Uttar Pradesh’s Farrukhabad created ruckus on Sunday morning demanding better amenities, in which at least four people including the acting district magistrate and jail superintendent were injured.
The inmates became agitated in the morning reportedly due to poor quality of food being served to them and bad healthcare facilities in the jail. They came out of their barracks and started protesting, police said.
Acting district magistrate NP Pandey and jail superintendent Rakesh Kumar suffered head injuries as the agitators started throwing utensils. Fatehgarh police station in-charge Ashok Nigam and a prisoner were also injured, they said.
The incident began around 4 am and continued till 2pm. Officials swung into action to pacify the agitated inmates and to bring the situation under control.
