This is the first time when such an initiative is being taken by the UP Board. The move is in line with similar steps taken in the past when the Board called for feedback from people while deciding on various issues like changing syllabus, introducing new courses or reforms.

After issuing a tentative examination schedule for 2018, the Board will invite online feedback from students as well as their teachers and parents.

Secretary, UP Board, Neena Srivastava confirmed that state personnel department had been asked to provide the annual calendar to help it finalise the high school and intermediate examination dates.

The step will help the Board maintain transparency and avoid any last minute objections to the examination schedule, especially when it wants to finalise the schedule in October itself.

Earlier, the Board used to release the examination schedule in December as the annual calendar for the next year used to come out only in the year-end.

In 2018, the examinations are likely to begin in February. This year, the examination started on March 15 in view of state assembly elections. In 2016, the examinations began on February 18 while in 2015 it took off on February 19.

The importance of the decision can be gauged from the fact that for 2018 examinations, over 67 lakh students – 37 lakh for high school and 30 lakh for intermediate – have registered for the examinations.

This year, the number of candidates is 6 lakh more as compared to last year. With the last date of online registration being October 9, this figure may go up further.
