UP assembly: NIA to start probe into PETN case today

The NIA officer also visited the Vidhan Bhawan and discussed with officers deployed for legislative assembly security. As the Budget session of legislative assembly concluded on Thursday, the team will inspect the assembly hall where the suspicious substance was found.

A team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) landed here on Thursday to probe the recovery of PETN (pentaerythritol tetranitrate) on the assembly premises on July 12.

A Home department officer said NIA would start probe on Friday. IG, NIA, met principal secretary, Home, Arvind Kumar and DGP Sulkhan Singh on Thursday to discuss the investigation carried out by the state police in the case.

The NIA officer also visited the Vidhan Bhawan and discussed with officers deployed for legislative assembly security. As the Budget session of legislative assembly concluded on Thursday, the team will inspect the assembly hall where the suspicious substance was found.

Sources said NIA would record the statement of the SP MLAs Manoj Pandey and Anil Dohre who shared the seat on which the suspicious substance was found. Along with recording the statement of the legislative assembly, secretariat administration staff and policemen NIA will also study the CCTV footage of the assembly that has been collected by UP ATS.

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) ordered NIA probe into the recovery of PETN in the assembly.

An FIR was registered with the Hazratganj police station, Lucknow on July 14 regarding the recovery of PETN. NIA will re-register this case at its office in Lucknow accordingly and will start investigation immediately.
