Strict measures put in place to check mass copying in UP Board examination resulted in 3,24,243 candidates skipping the paper in the state on Wednesday, officials said.
In the first two days of the examination, a whopping 5,05,069 students did not take the examination and a total of 144 copycats were caught throughout the state.
The officials also nabbed 128 students using unfair means at different districts and an FIR was lodged against a student under the Anti-Copying Act.
In Kaushambi, examination was cancelled at a centre in view of mass copying.
District inspector of schools (DIoS) SK Singh raided Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Girls’ Inter College at 9 am and found that the school staff was facilitating copying. He also found CCTV cameras non-functional.
On questioning, principal Poonam Mishra said the cameras were off as there was no power in the school at that time but she could not reply when asked as to why mandatory power backup was also absent at the school.
The DIoS also found copying material outside classrooms. Taking strong cognisance, the DIoS recommended cancellation of Wednesday’s examination at the centre. He said the centre would also be blacklisted in future and relieved the principal from the responsibilities of examination centre superintendent.
UP Board secretary Neena Srivastava said: “As per online information received by UP Board from all centres, Wednesday saw 2,14,265 high school examinees and 1,496 intermediate examinees skipping the examination. At least 69,201 high school and 2,20,107 intermediate examinees had skipped the examination on the first day on Tuesday.”

{{/usCountry}}Over 31,000 students each did not take examination in Hardoi and Azamgarh districts. Other districts where students skipped the examination included Mau (17,252), Allahabad (15,810) and Gonda (15,562).
At least 128 students – 92 of high school and 36 of intermediate – were caught using unfair means. Maximum of 25 copycats were caught in Mathura. “The figure is very small as compared to last year when 265 students were caught cheating on the second day of the examination,” Srivastava said.
Examination of compulsory paper of Hindi for high school students and music (instrument and vocal, dance paper-1) for intermediate students was held in the first shift (7.30 am to 10.45 am).
In the second shift (2.00 -5.15 pm), examination of principles and behaviour of insurance (paper-1) of intermediate commerce students was held.
