Principal secretary, energy and UP Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) chairman Alok Kumar on Tuesday warned that he would order a vigilance probe against the officials concerned whenever it was found that they did not start the work 48 hours after receiving funds under the power for all and Saubhagya schemes.
Holding a meeting with managing directors of distribution companies here, he asked officials to send memorandums demanding funds under the two schemes from the Centre. “But any delay in start of the work after the funds are received will be taken as an obstruction in the government work and invite a vigilance probe,” he warned.
Kumar told them not to sit on payments to the executing agencies that were doing well. He said he had received complaints that officials often kept the payments to the agencies and contractors pending.
He also pulled up Lucknow discom officials for laxity in preparations under the power for all and Saubhagya schemes that together, he said sought to provide electricity to each and every household in the state by March 2019.
Kumar said the corporation was going to introduce a new system from January next year, under which the enforcement teams would have give all the information on the mobile app portal developed for the purpose. He said they would have to fill all the details about a consumer before they go to raid his premises for power theft.

There was also a presentation on energy audit to check power theft and line losses, during the meeting. Kumar said installation of meters on distribution transformers in areas with higher losses could help check power theft. Madhya Pradesh, he said, had done this successfully.
SENIOR ASSISTANT CLERK SUSPENDED ON BRIBERY CHARGE
Lucknow: A senior assistant clerk in the electricity safety directorate, zonal office, Agra, Pramod Kumar Jain was on Tuesday suspended following allegations of bribery.
Giving this information, special secretary energy and acting director, electricity safety, Saumya Agrawal said the action followed after video showing Jain taking bribe went viral recently.
“This is prima facie case of corruption due to which Jain has been suspended with immediate effect. A detailed inquiry into the matter will also be conducted,” she said. She said no corruption in the department would be tolerated and due action would be taken in all the cases of harassment of consumers.
