Akshay Kumar has a flair for comedy but even that is beginning to bore which is quiet evident in Welcome. Khalid Mohamed tells us more.

Yahoo, hit hai bhai hit. But is this cinema? Big name stars, some yawned-there-snored-there-slapstick-humour (car without brakes on Dubai streets), a child peeing into the camera, women as bheja bandhs and homophobic jokes calculated to get the gallery hooting against gays. You still want more downright rude-crude stuff?

Then it’s Anees Bazmee’s Welcome for you. Nana Patekar is a don (when is he not?). Anil Kapoor is a tapori don which is why he says, Jhakaas (now where did you hear that before?) and slams out dialogue such as, “You fruit without a tree, you box without a dhakan, you brain without a head.” Didn’t Kader Khan copyright that?

Paresh Rawal is Dr Ghungroo who is forced to perform death-defying stunts like Spiderman. Rawal’s a superb comedian, the best on display here. But hey sir, do you want to be remembered for this? Katrina Kaif is a lifetime’s supply of the shiniest lip gloss in the world. Mallika Sherawat is HAM.

Feroz Khan, to be polite, looks very under the weather. Akshay Kumar has a flair for comedy but even that is beginning to bore with a capital B.
