Two people died and three others were injured, as the tempo they were travelling in crashed into a stationary trailer on old Mumbai-Pune highway on Monday.

According to the police, the group of vendors, who had come to Panvel to buy vegetables, were on their way home. “The vendors came from villages namely Sangadi, Borouli, Bhilouli among others. They usually buy vegetables at wholesale prices,” said a police officer from Panvel city police station.
All of them suffered injuries and were rushed to a government hospital in the vicinity. “Two of them, Gotiram Patil, 65, and Sangu Pawar, 66, suffered severe injuries to their heads. They succumbed later. Their bodies were handed over to their families after post-mortem,” he said.
Three others -- Shakuntala Patil, 55, Arun Patil, 45, and Madhukar Patil, 48 – who suffered injuries are residents of Borouli and Bhilouli villages.
“The tempo driver fled after the accident. We have registered a case against him,” another police officer said. “The exact cause of the accident is not known as the driver is yet to be arrested. The driver may have lost control on the tempo, ramming it into the trailer.”
