As many as 20 phones were reported stolen outside Shah Rukh Khan’s residence Mannat in Bandra (West) after fans thronged the premises on Wednesday and Thursday. Khan, who turned 52 on Thursday, was expected to step out in his balcony to greet the fans, as he does every year. The massive crowd gave thieves an opportune moment to loot fans, despite the presence of police officials.
On Wednesday night, 13 people reported to the Bandra police station, saying their mobile phones had been stolen. The first FIR was registered based on a complaint from Ankit Sahu, 26, who is from Raipur in Chhattisgarh. It was filed under section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code. A second FIR was filed on Thursday morning, based on the complaints of seven people.
Spokesperson for Mumbai police, Deepak Deoraj, confirmed that the police had launched an investigation. He said the officers were currently scanning the CCTV camera footage of the area. They have also put the phones under technical surveillance and are questioning history sheeters.
