23-year-old woman dies after truck hits scooter in Mumbai

A 23-year-old woman was killed after the scooter she was driving was hit by a speeding truck in Andheri (East) on Thursday morning.

According to Andheri police, the incident took place at around 11.30 am next to Gurunanak petrol pump below Metro junction on the east-bound strip of the Western Express Highway.

Shifa Anwar Shaikh, 23, was a resident of Goregaon (East) and was on her way to work in Sakinaka when the incident occurred, said the police.

The truck hit her from behind and ran over her legs. She was rushed to Holy Spirit Hospital where she was declared dead on admission. The police have arrested the truck driver Vaijyanath Yadav, 40, and registered an FIR against him under sections 279 and 304A of the Indian Penal Code for rash and negligent driving and causing death by negligence. He was produced before a magistrate and sent to judicial custody.
