3 Mumbai men held for robbing senior citizen of gold, cash worth Rs1.5 lakh

The accused threatened him with a knife, pushed him into an autorickshaw and took him to Jogeshwari east near the railway station

The Mumbai police on Wednesday arrested three people for allegedly kidnapping and robbing a senior citizen at knifepoint in Kanjurmarg earlier this month.

According to the officials, the accused – Mahesh Mohite, 31, alias Maya, Ilahi Shaikh, 32 and Janardhan alias Jana, 35 – are residents of Sangharsh nagar in Chandivali.

The incident took place on the night of July 2 in Kanjurmarg when the complainant Sambhaji Ramchandra Gholatkar, 62, was on a night walk.

The accused threatened him with a knife, pushed him into an autorickshaw and took him to Jogeshwari east near the railway station. They robbed him of gold and cash collectively worth Rs1.5 lakh.

The complainant approached the local Kanjurmarg police station and filed an FIR against the accused.

Acting on a tip-off, the unit officials nabbed all three accused from Chandivali area.

During interrogation, the accused confessed they committed the crime. The accused have been handed over to the Kanjurmarg police for further probe.
