Manoj Babulal Kalos, a resident of Ulhasnagar, was arrested in September for his alleged involvement in a murder case. He was shifted to Kharghar-situated Taloja jail after the court remanded him to judicial custody on September 16.

“He was admitted to the jail hospital after his condition deteriorated on Tuesday. But he died on Wednesday,” said Ashok Karkar, jailer of Taloja jail. “Kalos’ son was also arrested in the same case and he is also in our jail now. We had first sent his body to JJ hospital in Mumbai for postmortem and then gave it to his family,” he said.

The Kharghar police have registered a case of accidental death.
