Mumbai city news: 42% students, who cleared the state Common Entrance Test (CET), applied for admissions

Eighty-five thousand five hundred and twenty students made it to the first engineering allotment list, which the state Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) released on Wednesday. Total 1.31 lakh seats in 360 engineering institutes in Maharashtra are up for grabs this year.

“Students figured in the first list can confirm their admission with respective institutes in the next five days,” said a DTE official.

Around 2.84 lakh students cleared the state Common Entrance Test (CET) in June and of them 1.19 lakh have participated in the state common admission process (CAP). Experts said the reason for this is students’ better performance in all India entrance tests like Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) this year. “There can be two reasons for this less registrations — either students have not scored 50% or 45% in their class XII exams or they have scored very well in the Joint Entrance Examination-Advanced (JEE-Adv),” said Dayanand Meshram, joint director, DTE. He added that many students must be hoping to get through one of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), etc, based on their JEE-Adv scores.

Students can log on to www.dtemaharashtra.gov.in to check the provisional engineering seat allotment status. If a student’s name has appeared in the list, he/she can directly report to the institute to pay the fees and confirm their admission.
