A top-level executive working with Bajaj Auto and his wife were killed while their two children suffered serious injuries in a mishap on the Mumbai-Pune expressway, the police said on Monday.

Amrutkumar Rath, 45, and his family were returning to Pune from Mumbai on Sunday afternoon when he lost control of his BMW (MH14 EP369) near Malawali, some 60 km from Pune.

“The BMW car hit the median after Rath lost control of the car,” said Shankar Awatade, police inspector who is attached with NIgdi police station. Rath and his wife Padmaja, 40, died instantly while their two children Adisha, 18, and Alman, 10, suffered fractures and joint dislocation and were hospitalised at Lokmanya hospital, Nigdi, Awatade said.

The Raths from Wakad in Pune had gone to Mumbai to drop Amrutkumar’s sister. The expressway had received heavy rain on Sunday morning and it was drizzling when the family was returning to Pune, the police said.
