BMC to release separate 20-year development plan for BKC, Oshiwara, Kurla on October 12

Two months after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) passed the Development Plan (DP) 2034, it will release another document for three land parcels in the city. A source said the general body consisting of 227 corporators are likely to release the document on October 12.

The three land parcels — 39.3 hectares in the Oshiwara District Centre, 47.37 hectares of A block in Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and 27.37 hectares of Parigkhadi, an area between LBS Marg and Mithi river in Kurla — were handed over to the BMC by the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) in 2016. By that time, the DP 2034 had already been released, leading to a separate draft.

The BKC land includes Bandra reclamation area, Lilavati Hospital, ONGC Colony and a recreation ground. An official from the DP department said, “BKC and Oshiwara district centre are planned areas. Parigkhadi has informal settlements. Though the scope was limited in terms of planning for the three land parcels, we have proposed more developement of them.”

“A planning committee will be appointed by the state to look into their suggestions. The document will follow the similar process as that of DP 2034,” said another senior official.

In 2016, BMC chief Ajoy Mehta wrote to the state government that Mumbai needs a single planning authority, which has also been suggested in the plan.
