Confusion rules in Mumbai as CBSE Class 10 results out

Mumbai city news: Many schools in Mumbai are yet to receive the details of the students’ scores. Those in Navi Mumbai and Thane have, however, received it.

At 90.95%, India recorded one of its worst pass percentages in Central Board Secondary Education (CBSE) results on Saturday. In the Chennai region, however [which includes Maharashtra], 99.62% of students who took the exam passed it.

This is marginally lower than last year’s 99.69%.

Many schools did not receive details of its students’ scores, only a range, owing to a problem in uploading them.

The national pass percentage fell from 98.87% in 2014 to 97.32% in 2015, this year’s dip is significantly higher.

Although many Mumbai schools were unable to access their full results till the time of going to press, principals agreed that students fared much better than last year, with a steep increase in the number of students who scored above 90%.

“We had an extremely frustrating and confusing day,” said Avnita Bir, principal of RN Podar School in Santacruz. “We were unable to check the details of the students’ results,” she said.

This put a dampener on celebrations in Mumbai as students were not sure how much they had scored in each subject. CBSE on Saturday released the cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of students. Marked from 1-10, a CGPA of 10 means the student scored between 90% and 100%.

Principals said that students fared better this year as schools awarded nearly 70% of the marks under the problem solving assessment (PSA) component.

“All the papers were easy this year and not a single child complained about the exams,” said Kalpana Dwivedi, principal of St Joseph School in Panvel.

At 99.6%, Mridula Subramanyam from Apeejay School in Nerul, was the highest scorer in the city. She secured full marks in math, English, and social studies.
