DK Rao extortion case: Mumbai police may record gangster Chhota Rajan’s statement

Police custody of Rao and real estate agent Yerolla extended till October 23 after they are produced in court on Wednesday

The police may record gangster Chhota Rajan’s statement in connection with a Rs50-lakh extortion case involving his henchman Ravi Mallesh Bora, alias DK Rao, and real estate agent Shankar Bhojappa Yerolla.

DK Rao was arrested in an extortion case.

They believe that it will help them verify allegations against Rao and corroborate his links with other builders.

The police custody of Rao and Yerolla was extended till October 23 after they were produced in court on Wednesday.

According to the consultant, who filed the complaint, he met a Kandivli-based developer and his partner in January 2014 to discuss the redevelopment of an SRA project in Antop Hill. The consultant told the developer that Rao was interested in the project, to which the developer said he was on good terms with the gangster.

The complaint states that Rajan asked the developer to pay Rs10 crore to his gang and Rs40 crore to the chief promoter of the project. The consultant, meanwhile, was promised Rs2 crore and two flats as his fees for getting the project cleared, said the police. The consultant did not get the promised money, and was asked to speak to Rao, said a police officer.

The consultant was approached by society members at Antop Hill for redevelopement.
