Garage, five godowns catch fire in Mumbai, no one injured

A major fire broke out at a garage in Yevai village in Bhiwandi at 4 am on Saturday. No one was hurt, said officials. However, the flames spread to five small godowns in the area, which were charred. “We received a call at 4 am,” said Suraj Yadav, fire officer from Kalyan.

Fire officials said locals had set a garbage heap near the godown ablaze. Owing to strong winds, the fire spread to the nearby garage.

“The fire intensified as flammable material such as rubber cans, wood and plastic were stored in the gowdowns. The incident has led to a loss of property,” he added.
