GST pushes up ticket prices of Tejas Express, first class on Mumbai’s local trains

Mumbai city news: A local train commuter paying Rs700 for a monthly first-class pass will have to pay Rs 735

Commuters travelling in first-class coaches in suburban trains and on the Mumbai-Goa Tejas Express will have shell out more money as the fares will increase from July 1, after the Goods and Services Tax comes into effect.

Currently, 4.5% service tax is charged on the first class card or season ticket, which will be replaced by a GST of 5%.

The fare for air-conditioned coaches will also increase. However, travel in second-class coaches of suburban and outstation trains is likely to cost the same.

A local train commuter paying Rs700 for a monthly first-class pass will have to pay Rs 735.

The fare of an executive-class seat in Tejas (except in the monsoon) is Rs2,740 and an AC chair car ticket costs Rs1,310. After GST, they will increase to Rs2,877 and Rs1,375, respectively.

The highest increase in fare on Tejas will be Rs137 while the minimum will be Rs65. Fares will also increase for the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT)-Karmali Double Decker, AC superfast special between LTT- Lucknow, Nagpur -Amritsar, Nagpur-Pune and other special and AC special trains.
