The railway protection force (RPF) sent help to a 22-year-old woman – who complained a man masturbated at her on a local train on June 15 – at Kandivli railway station, but it was too late, according to the government railway police (GRP) officers investigating the case.

The woman, in her Facebook post put up on Thursday, said she boarded a train from Borivli at 2pm and wanted to alight at Dadar. She entered the women’s coach and started listening to music.

In her post, the woman said she heard a man in the adjacent handicapped compartment verbally abusing one of her co-passengers. When she made eye-contact with him, he first abused her and then started to masturbate.

The woman called the railway helpline number, but the man got off the train at Kandivli by then. When she called the helpline and asked an official if he could nab the man at Kandivli, he laughed off the complaint and cut the call, reads her post.

The police said they were examining the CCTV camera footage of Borivli and Kandivli railway stations.
