Shiv Sena MLA from Kolhapur Prakash Abitkar stunned the Legislative Assembly on Friday when he claimed that his name is among the list of beneficiaries for the state government’s farm loan waiver scheme, though he had not applied for it.

Abitkar alleged that the list has many such names from categories excluded from the waiver, such as pensioners, teachers and elected representatives, and that many bogus beneficiaries are benefitting from the waiver.

The scheme has proved to be a farce, the MLA said, adding that his name has appeared in the list of beneficiaries who are being given incentives for making regular repayments. He said Rs 25,000 had been credited to his account in the Kolhapur District Central Cooperative Bank, and presented a photo copy of the list on which his account number and the amount credited have appeared.
