In Mumbai: Expect days to get hotter, more humid from Wednesday

After two weeks of temperature fluctuation between 33 and 34 degrees Celsius in Mumbai, both the suburbs and south Mumbai recorded the day temperature at 35.2 degrees Celsius, almost 2 degrees Celsius above normal, on Monday.

High day temperature combined with high humidity led to a hot and sticky day on Monday. Officials from the weather department predicted that owing to cloudy conditions, humidity levels are expected to touch 90% by Wednesday.

After two weeks of temperature fluctuation between 33 and 34 degrees Celsius in Mumbai, both the suburbs and south Mumbai recorded the day temperature at 35.2 degrees Celsius, almost 2 degrees Celsius above normal, on Monday.

Moisture levels in the city were high with Colaba recording 80% humidity while 69% was recorded at Santacruz.

“Northwesterly winds are blowing over the city, bringing in a lot of moisture that is leading to cloud formation. The cloudy conditions are increasing humidity levels in the city. We expect this to rise till 90% by Wednesday,” said KS Hosalikar, deputy director general, western region, India Meteorological Department (IMD).

“Temperatures, on the other hand, are expected to remain normal in the coming days,” he added.

Partly cloudy sky has been predicted for Tuesday with day and night temperatures expected to be 35 and 26 degrees Celsius respectively.
