Mumbai city news: The weather bureau issued a fresh prediction on Tuesday that Mumbai can expect heavy to very heavy rain till Friday.

Rain continued to play havoc with Mumbaiites’ commute for the fourth consecutive day on Wednesday. Potholes are beginning to appear on the roads leads to long traffic snarls. Trains are running late; in fact the Harbour Line shut down for about 20 minutes in the morning. But that didn’t prevent people from unfurling their umbrellas and going about their business as usual.

On Tuesday, between 8am and 5.30pm, the Colaba weather station recorded 56.6mm rainfall and the Santacruz station recorded 40.9mm rainfall.

Heavy traffic snarls were reported along the southbound stretch of the Western Express Highway. Motorists complained of taking as much as an hour to cover the 21-km stretch between Dahisar and Andheri.

People shield themselves under umbrellas at Bhandup. Suburban trains were running late with services on the Harbour line being shut for 20 minutes at Mankhurd due to a technical problem. Trains on the Central line were running 15 to 20 minutes late.

The heavy downpour held up traffic at Vashi in Navi Mumbai, increasing commuters’ travel time.

Officials added that along with the southwest monsoon, other weather systems had made the monsoon pulse even stronger along the entire Konkan coast.
