Maharashtra govt will give leaving certificates to students of derecognised Mumbai college

Mumbai city news: An education official said they would receive leaving certificates, either from the department or a nearby college

Students of derecognised Borivli college, who appeared for their HSC exams this year, are worried if they will be able to secure admissions to degree colleges, as all their documents are with the recently shut institute. An education official said they would receive leaving certificates, either from the department or a nearby college.

Two days after the state government shut down the Namdar Ajit Pawar junior college in Borivli for 630 illegal admissions and for cheating students, a delegation of parents and students met BB Chavan, deputy director of education, Mumbai division, on Wednesday. They asked the department how their children will procure leaving certificates if the college is shut.

“We appeared for the HSC exams recently, but now with the college derecognised, we are not sure how we will get a leaving certificate which is very important for degree college admissions,” said a student of the Borivli college. Out of the total 630 students, 100 are class 12 students.

Chavan said leaving certificates would be issued by the department or a nearby college.

“The parents will be told the final decision in a couple of days,” he said. He assured students that they would not lose a year as they were not at fault. “This is a very rare case and we will treat it as an exception and do everything in our power to help the students,” said Chavan.

“We will accommodate every student in a college nearby. Junior colleges have already offered to help,” he said.
